Pre production
The screenplay for Iron Man 3 was written by Shane Black and Drew Pierce, from there it went to pre-production.
After this in September 2011 MARVEL studios brokered a deal with EUE/Screen Gems Studios to shoot the film largely out of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Casting was then overseen by Black and Pierce with large assistance from Tona B.
Dahlquist Casting Company.

Production
Filming then began in Wilmington, North Carolina in May of 2012 and then traveled to multiple other locations for filming, including Above the Atlantic Ocean for 1 scene.
Then, after various other filming sessions in North Carolina (Rose Hill), production moved to Florida on October 1.

Post Production/Distribution
After this it was edited in post in a joint effort from over 17 studios and from there it was distributed by MARVEL's parent company Walt Disney Motion Pictures to cinemas where it would be shown.
In the UK this is represented in majority by Cinema franchises like Cineworld, The Light, ODEON and VUE.
The film was released for digital download worldwide by Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment on September 3 in 2013 and was released for Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray, On demand and DVD worldwide on September 24 2013.

MARVEL made sure to promote the film well using their other IP's and products (like advertisements in their comics) and it Premiered in Le Grand Rex in Paris with some of the films biggest stars attending in order to gain press for the event. At San Diego Comic-Con some of the stars were in attendance again and talked abut the production of the film as well as showing exclusive scenes from the film ahead of release.
There were also scale models of the Iron Man armour on the show floor at the event. This clearly shows that along side regular advertisement like billboards posters and TV/film commercials MARVEL also knows how to target their hardcore fans in their environment and appeal to them in the right ways, someone who's favourite superhero is Iron man would love to see the Iron Man armour in real life.
MARVEL also released a free 2 part mini-comic that revolved around the events prior to the film, as well as starting a Facebook page called Iron Man 3:Armor Unlock to promote the film. The first televised advertisement was aired during Superbowl XLVII on the CBS Network in the US on February 3 2013 .
