Task 1D Character conflict analysis
Not all products follow a story of conflict, but it could be argued that this is why some stories are better than others, in Iron man 3 for example the story starts with conflict in which the protagonist is defeated. The rest of the film is the story of the protagonist preparing for another conflict with the same antagonist, this is interesting to see because while most stories have an arc and conflict peaks in the middle or end this product has conflict at the beginning and the end and less in the middle.
In the game of thrones scene there is a large amount of conflict between the four characters.
Ser Waymar
Will
Gared
Ser Waymar:
Wants to complete the task he has been set by his superiors, he also wants to have his authority respected by Gared and Will, he wants them to show this by following his orders unquestionably but they are hesitant to do so because they fear for their lives. He likely hopes to be rewarded for completing his task so well and in turn wants to rise through the ranks in his position in order to gain a higher social status.
Gared:
Is here with Ser Waymar and Will to complete a tracking task, at this point in his career he cares little for his rank and status as he is already somewhat respected, and more so for living a long life.
He is experienced and as a result has a keen sense for danger, this is why he wishes to return after Will discovers the bodies. The conflict arises when Ser Waymar says that they will investigate further, Gared realises that they are in danger and wishes to return to the wall but this means that Ser Waymar will return empty handed as such and as a result may face punishment from a superior.
Will:
He is a much lower rank than the other two characters and also has the lowest status in the scene, he wants to go back to wall and not die, the bodies he found have frightened him greatly and he wishes to return rather than complete the task. this is in direct conflict with Ser Waymar, someone who thretens to kill him if he tries to return; " this is an example of a conflict that could escalate and become physical.

Most crime dramas are similar in their conventions, these include:
- Mysteries that the audience can solve within the show, before the show itself reveals them. e.g Why certain character refuse to be interviewed by police
- Sub plots and b stories between the characters that link up with the main mystery. e.g In CSI different clues at the crime scene will be analysed by different people then brought together towards the end.
- Either a main character that the series follows or a team of characters. e.g Law And Order follows a team of detectives, whereas Luther follows one.
- Usually follows the police side of the law but not always. e.g Luther follows a detective whereas dexter is about the killer himself.
- Can sometimes show us the crime being committed at the very beginning so that the rest of the show is dedicated to solving the mystery of "whodunnit". e.g the CSI series always starts the show with the crime being committed and doesn't show faces except for the victim or victims, we then see this flashback numerous times in the show as more clues arise and flesh out the scene.
